The new national standard for high-end decorative stone has added a special classification and technical indicators for agate, officially including agate in the management category of quartz gemstone grade decorative stone. Onyx belongs to the category of cryptocrystalline quartz jade, mainly composed of silicon dioxide. Its distinctive feature is natural parallel regular stripes, with a delicate and dense texture. After polishing, the glass is high gloss and transparent, possessing natural high transparency characteristics. It is the highest grade and most luxurious category among all natural decorative stones.
Onyx has a Mohs hardness of 6.5-7, high hardness, wear resistance, acid and alkali resistance, corrosion resistance, dense structure, and extremely low water absorption rate. Its physical properties are far superior to carbonate marble. Natural reserves are scarce, processing precision is high, and the price is expensive. It is only used for high-end luxury homes, star rated clubs, hotel lobbies, indoor translucent background walls, translucent bar counters, translucent screens, art countertops and other top-level light luxury spaces. After the light penetrates, the striped layers are three-dimensional and dreamy, and the decorative effect is irreplaceable. The standard specifies that agate is brittle and prone to edge breakage, and must be processed with precision cutting; Long term exposure to outdoor ultraviolet radiation can cause slight loss of light, and outdoor use is prohibited.
Natural agate has a unique texture that distinguishes it from artificial imitations with dull textures, combining decorative and collectible value. The difference between agate and marble core: marble carbonate is sensitive to acid and opaque, with a soft texture; Onyx quartz is acid resistant, highly transparent, and has high hardness and luster.
